Pride Open The Season Against Team Canada

The USSSA Pride open its first game of the 2021 season and look to return to play after a shortened 2020 campaign.

Looking towards the upcoming season, the roster has been busy since leaving the USSSA Space Coast Complex back in July of last year.  Many Pride athletes spent their time overseas in Japan such as, Jailyn Ford, Megan Good, Chelsea Goodacre, and Megan Wiggins.  Others spent their offseason coaching, such as Shay Knighten coaching for University of San Diego, Shelby Pendley coaching for Jackson State, and Sahvanna Jaquish coaching at Dixie State.  They will need this extra preparation as the lead up to this season was rather short.  They spent less than two weeks in Viera, FL before going off for a seven-game road trip last night.  With such little time to get ready, their experience and skill will need to shine through in this first stretch of the season.

The Pride begin their season in a 3-game series against Team Canada, a group that started playing games back in March. They are coming off a big 13 game road trip to Florida, going a perfect 13-0 in that span.  The Pride, on the other hand, comes in a little shorthanded, with Amanda Lorenz missing the trip to coach the University of Florida in their Super Regional against Georgia.  This may spell trouble for the USSSA Pride but there are a few things going for them in this series.  There are 12 returners of the 13 rostered and the entire coaching staff from 2020 is returning as well.  This level of continuity will be important coming into a series against an already established Team Canada.  The singular newcomer, Samantha Show, adds some much needed versatility to a shorthanded group.  Her ability to hit and pitch at a high level will be needed in this series given the smaller roster, as well as other utilities such as Aleshia Ocasio and Megan Good.

The season opens tonight and the schedule is as follows:

  • May 28th, 8 PM EST at Rent One Park in Marion, Illinois
