NPF Draftee Update 5/7 – Valerie Arioto

Via calbears.com:

Arioto, Ziegenhirt Visit Sheldon High School (4/30)

“Senior utility Valerie Arioto and junior catcher Lindsey Ziegenhirt spent their Monday morning connecting with Ziegenhirt’s roots with a trip to Sheldon High School in the Sacramento Valley, where Lindsey’s mother Laura Ziegenhirt teaches. The elder Ziegenhirt’s classes have been collecting toiletries for Arioto‘s community service project and voting for Val daily for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.

“All season, Arioto and her Golden Bears have been collecting unopened toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner and body wash to donate to a local women’s shelter. Ziegenhirt challenged her students to bring in items and the Huskies collected over 900 items in just one week.

‘”Lindsey and I had a great time meeting the kids at Sheldon High!” Arioto said. “They are an awesome group! They were so enthusiastic about giving back!”

“Since fan balloting counts a third of the voting results for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award – with the remaining two thirds determined by NCAA Division I coaches and national media members – Laura Ziegenhirt’s two microbiology and one honors biology classes have been voting for Val.”

Arioto Merits Tom Hansen Pac-12 Medal (5/4)

“After a storied career that is hopefully far from over, California softball utility Valerie Arioto earned herself one of the most coveted awards in the Pac-12 – the Tom Hansen Pac-12 Conference Medal – which is given to the top male and female senior student-athletes at each member institution.

‘”This award is really a reflection of all of the support and guidance I have received from my family, friends, coaches and staff at Berkeley,” Arioto said. “It’s an opportunity for me to say thank you to everyone!”’
