Pride Come Out Hot Against Aussie Spirit

VIERA,FL (June 4, 2018) –It was a complete team effort as the USSSA Pride extend their overall season record to 6-0 with a 10-0 victory over the Aussie Spirit.

Jolene Henderson got the start and the win for the night’s game- as she threw a complete game shutout. Henderson allowed only two hits and struck out three.

She was named the Vaults Lock It Up Player of the game for the second time this season.

The offense got it going in the bottom of the first for the Pride as they scored early and often. Allexis Bennett started it off with a line drive single to shallow left field. With two outs, Chelsea Goodacre laced a double down the first base line that drove in Bennett.

The two-out rally continued with a shot to left center by Shelby Pendley that brought Goodacre in from second and increased the lead to 2-0.

In the top of the second, the defense was on fire for the Pride with two diving catches by Megan Wiggins in left field and Pendley at short.

The Pride bats got hot again in the bottom of second to score three more, advancing their lead to 5-0. Alex Powers ripped a leadoff double and would eventually score on a triple by Wiggins. Bennett’s sacrifice fly one batter later scored Wiggins from third. Sierra Romero then blasted a solo homerun to left field to increase the lead to 5-0.

In bottom of the third, Powers started it off again with a leadoff walk and a stolen base. Hallie Wilson laced a two out single to score Powers from second. Wiggins recorded her second triple of the night to score Wilson and increased the lead to 7-0.

Romero led off the fourth with a single to center followed by a single to left by Goodacre. Pendley followed with a RBI single to score Romero from second base. That set up a bases clearing double by Bianka Bell which increased the Pride’s lead to 10-0.

Three up and three down in the fifth and the six for the Pride made the final score 10-0.

Goodacre ended the day 3-4 with one RBI. Wiggins, Romero and Pendley all went 2-4 with some RBIs. Wilson and Bell recorded a hit and a couple RBIs as well.

The Pride will complete the series against the Aussie Spirit Tuesday, June 5 at 11:05 A.M. ET at USSSA Space Coast Stadium.
