Pride Sweep Aussie Spirit in Six Game Series

VIREA, FL (June 5, 2018) –  The USSSA Pride completed the series sweep against the Aussie Spirit as they took game six with a convincing 9-0 win moving them to a NPF-best 7-0 on the season.

Jessica Burroughs got the start and the win for the day’s game as she threw a complete game shutout. Burroughs allowed only two hits and struck out seven as she improved her season record to 3-0. For the first time this season, she was named the Vaults Lock It Up Player of the game.

In the bottom of the first the Pride took an early lead with Chelsea Goodacre’s sacrifice fly that scored Megan Wiggins, who had reached via a walk .

Sahvanna Jaquish blasted her first homerun in a Pride uniform as she launched a two-run shot in the second inning and increased the lead to 3-0.

The Pride broke it open in the bottom of the third. Allexis Bennett showed off her speed by beating out a groundball to the pitcher and Goodacre followed with a two-run homerun to right center. Goodacre increased her team and league leading RBIs to 10 on the season.

Jaquish later followed with a RBI triple that scored Bianka Bell and increased the Pride lead to 8-0. Jaquish finished the game 2-3 with 3RBIs and 2 runs scored.

After a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, Wiggins blasted her second homerun on the season, a solo shot, in the sixth to increase the Pride’s lead to 9-0. Wiggins was 1-2 on the game with a walk, RBI, and 2 runs scored.

The Pride will compete in their first series on the road from June 8-10th against the Cleveland Comets.
