USSSA Pride falls to Team USA in extra innings, 4-3.
The Pride broke out of their hitting slump right away in the 1st, with Sahvanna Jaquish and Shay Knighten both hitting solo home runs to go up 2-0. Team USA fought back in the 2nd, loading the bases for the second game in a row, but Megan Good was able to pitch her way out. Team USA pitcher Cat Osterman walked three batters in the 3rd inning to put herself in a jam, but quickly returned to form to get out of it for the third time in this series.
Team USA was able to get their bats going in the coming innings, as Hannah Flippen hit a solo home run in the 4th and Amanda Chidester hit one in the 5th to tie the game 2-2. The Pride had two chances to win the game in regulation, having runners in scoring position the last two innings, but were unable to capitalize. The game went to extra innings, where Team USA scored two runs in the top of the 8th inning to put the Pride down 4-2. The Pride almost completed the comeback in the bottom half of the inning, scoring one run off an Alex Powers RBI single, but were unable to get the tying run across, ending the game 4-3.
USSSA Pride put up a good fight and had their chances to win the game. The bats were firing today, and on a pitcher they have had problems with this series, Cat Osterman. She gave up two home runs and almost gave up another to Amanda Lorenz on a deep flyout before being pulled in the 5th for Ally Carda. Megan Good also pitched extremely well for the Pride today, throwing a complete game where she only gave up 4 runs and threw almost 150 pitches.
Despite the score, the Pride put up a good performance in the last game of the series. They showed their fight in this contest and never backed down despite how the series has gone. They will look to build off this effort when they finally come home against Team Mexico next week!
