USSSA Pride hands Abbott first loss in 1-0 win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 19, 2010)–A home run by Andrea Duran over the right field fence gave the USSSA Pride a 1-0 win and ended a streak of 25 scoreless innings for Tennessee Diamonds pitcher Monica Abbott in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

It was the second loss in the series for the Diamonds in National Pro Fastpitch action at Draper Diamond on the campus of Lipscomb University.

Duran led off the ninth inning with the solo shot. It was the second extra inning game for the Diamonds, who beat the Akron Racers 1-0 in 10 innings in the first series of the season.

Chelsea Spencer singled up the middle with one out in the ninth inning. She was thrown out trying to steal second base to end the game.

Abbott, a right-hander, dueled USSSA Pride left-handed pitcher Cat Osterman. Osterman struck out 13 and Abbott struck out 10.

Loryn Johnson led the Diamonds with two hits, both singles.

Osterman allowed only four hits. She is 3-0 this season.

The series continues tonight at 7. The final game of the series is Sunday at 2.
