Kissimmee, FL-June 12, 2015–
The USSSA Florida Pride is pleased to announce the signing of Alexa Peterson to a two-year contract. The former University of Oregon All-American joins former Oregon teammate Courtney Ceo, who on June 11thsigned with the Pride as well. Peterson was the eleventh overall selection in the 2014 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) draft.
“I am truly honored and blessed to be given this amazing opportunity to continue my softball career with such a prestigious organization. I look forward to playing with and learning from some of the greatest players and coaches in the game,” Peterson said after her signing.
Peterson showed her versatility in the 2014 season as she moved to right field from her normal position behind the plate. In fact, during Pac-12 play, Peterson would split time between right field and catcher during the three game series. At the plate, Peterson hit .356 with 7 homeruns, 13 doubles, and a team-leading 61 RBIs. Her 61 RBIs ranked fourth in the Pac-12 and her 10 sacrifice flies ranked first. Peterson helped the number-one ranked Ducks advance to the Final Four of the Women’s College World Series (WCWS) in 2014.
In her four year career at Oregon, Peterson posted a .360 career batting average with 30 homeruns, 153 RBIs, and 38 doubles. In 2013, she was a First-Team NFCA All-American when she hit a career best .424 and 12 homeruns. She was named to the All-Pacific Region team four times, the All-Pac 12 First Team two times, and was a member of the All-Pac 12 Freshman team in 2011. Peterson was a member of the 2012 All-WCWS team. She was a key member of the team’s two WCWS appearances in 2012 and 2014 and helped Oregon win their first two Pac-12 Championships in program history.
“Alexa Peterson is a versatile athlete who can play multiple positions for the Pride. Peterson adds depth to our lineup as a power hitting right hander. We face a lot of talented lefty pitchers in the NPF so adding a right handed hitter to our lineup, who can hit for average and power, is something we need,” said Don DeDonatis, General Manager of the USSSA Florida Pride.
Peterson will graduate from Oregon this month with a degree in communication disorders and science.
