Pride Fall Short in Pitchers’ Duel

The USSSA Pride outhit the Smash It Sports Vipers but was not able to pull out the victory on Military Appreciation Night.  Ali Aguilar starts the game off with a single and Taylor Ellsworth reaches base on a walk, however, they were left stranded after a strike out by Amber Fiser to end the top of the inning.  Keely Rochard gets the start for the Pride and works her way out of a jam leaving two runners on base at the end of the first, leaving the score 0-0.

In the second inning both teams remained scoreless.  The tables turned in the bottom of the 3rd Morgan Howe for the Vipers earns a lead-off walk and steals second, and moves to third base on a ground out with two outs. Mary Iakopo is walked, leaving two runners on for Shelbi Sunseri who steps in and hits a three-run home run.

The Pride went with Sam Show in the circle in the top of the fourth and is a bright spot for the Pride, with some outstanding defense behind her, throwing three perfect innings of three up and three down, striking out one.

Veteran catcher Chelsea Goodacre returns with a strong showing in her 2022 debut, going 2-3 and scoring on the first run for the Pride on a triple by Sami Fagan. Abbey Cheek recorded the other RBI for the Pride with a sacrifice fly to left field to score Fagan. That is where the scoring would end with the Pride threatening in the 7th but falling short 3-2.
