Pride Sweeps Series at FIU

Miami, FL (July 9, 2017) – The USSSA Pride (20-3) swept the series at Felsburg Field in overwhelming fashion, throttling past the Texas Charge (12-15) in Game 3 to conclude Week 5 of the 2017 Season.
In the circle, Jolene Henderson (5-1) and Jordan Taylor (1-0, S 7) joined forces to clutch another win for the Pride. Henderson collected five strike outs and six hits for one run in 5.2 innings pitched, while Taylor recorded one strike out and allotted no hits in 1.1 innings pitched. With today’s appearance, Henderson increased her number of strike outs to 39 in 37.4 innings pitched. Taylor now counts 17 strike outs in 10.2 innings pitched and detains the largest number of saves within the Pride.
At the plate, Sierra Romero led the Red, White and Blue firepower, ending the game going 1-for-2 with two RBI. In the night, Romero batted in the tying run and the go-ahead run, locking in the win for the Pride. The Pride’s second baseman now has a total of 21 RBI, and takes the second spot in the 2017 NPF ranking for most runners batted in. Romero is also ranked fourth overall for slugging percentage (.643) and third for home runs (5).
With the win, the Pride enlarged its stretch atop the 2017 NPF standings, putting the second ranked Chicago Bandits at six games behind. The Pride currently holds a winning percentage of .864, with a batting percentage of .284 and slugging average of .470. Defensively, the Pride maintains a fielding percentage of .981 on more than 150 innings played, with only 12 errors and 471 putouts. In the NPF leaderboard, Goodacre (106) and Hallie Wilson (104) respectively cover the fourth and fifth spots in the ranking for putouts. In the box, Pride has collected 172 hits on 606 at bats, producing 108 RBI and 118 runs.
Aside from the overall rankings, the Pride roster also posts three on top of the player’s leaderboard, some of which hold the first place spot in more than one category. Kelly Kretschman takes the first spot on four of the ten categories for offensive stats, while Jordan Taylor and Keilani Ricketts sits on top of two pitching categories, ERA and strike percentage correspondingly.
After falling behind one run in the first inning, the Pride fired back in the third, as Romero drove in two runners to put the Pride ahead, 2-1.
For the remainder of the game the score remained unfazed, and in the seventh Taylor shut down the Charge lineup to fasten the 20th seasonal victory for USSSA Pride, 2-1.

The Pride will now fly to Kansas City to face the Texas Charge at the Community America Ballpark on July 10. Teams will line up at 8:05 EST.
