USSSA Pride come back to Space Coast Complex in Game 1 against Team Mexico

The Pride look to start their long home stand with a 4 game series against Team Mexico starting on June 15th.

Team Mexico heads to Florida once again after a series with Team USA in Clearwater where they dropped all three games of the series. Team Mexico struggled in these contests, only averaging four hits a game while giving up sixteen runs in the series. Team Mexico mainly scored off the long ball, with four of their five runs being driven in off home runs.

The Pride, coming off their much more recent series against Team USA, tell a similar story. They found themselves in a scoring slump, only getting five runs on nineteen hits in the series with more than half those runs coming off solo homers. Despite that, they were in two very close games with Team USA and Pride Head Coach Roman Foore is encouraged by their performance. “We competed really well even though the outcomes did not go our way. We just have to take care of the little things. We have found ourselves in a few one run games this season and it only takes one break for those to be wins.”

Players like Dallas Escobedo are players to look out for on Team Mexico. She has played for the Pride very recently and knows the team well, which gives her a huge advantage going into the game. When asked about Escobedo, Pride Head Coach Roman Foore had high praises of his former pitcher, saying “She is their heart, their soul. She is their number one and that is why she is a captain. Her just being in the dugout makes that team better.” Given her ability and familiarity with the organization, she could be a player that causes the Pride a bit of discomfort in this series.

Not only does Mexico have good pitching but so does Pride in Megan Good. She played extremely well in her two starts against Team USA, putting up a 2.50 ERA in fourteen innings pitched and keeping both games extremely close. She did give up thirteen hits and a fair amount of walks but her clutch play in those pressure situations are what made her so good. She is a player to look out for this week against a cold Team Mexico squad.
