USSSA Pride come up short in finale to Team Mexico, 2-1

Viera, FL (July 1st, 2021)- Another great crowd at Space Coast Stadium tonight for the series finale between USSSA Pride and Team Mexico. As the Space Coast World Series is winding down, these young athletes got to watch a pitchers’ duel between two of the best in the game.

Megan Good for the Pride and Dallas Escobedo for Mexico went head-to-head in a low scoring affair. Good, pitched five and a third innings allowing one run in the top of the first. She ran into trouble in the sixth inning loading the bases with 1 out but Sam Show came in relief and had two great defensive plays behind her. Nicole Mendes hit a ground ball to Shelby Pendley who threw the ball home to prevent the run from scoring. Amanda Sanchez was up next hitting a ball to shallow center and Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza made another highlight reel diving catch to end the inning.

After that great inning ending defensive play, the Pride tied up the game in the bottom of the sixth. Sam Show’s walk followed by a single by Shelby Pendley moved Show to second. Chelsea Goodacre singled to center field scoring Show for the only run of the game.

Going into the top of the seventh with the game tied 1-1, Sam Show let up a lead off single to Chelsea Gonzales followed by a two-base sacrifice. Mexico’s Gonzalez scored the winning run on a wild pitch. The Pride came up short in the bottom of the inning and Mexico won the game 2-1.
