USSSA Pride fall in Game 1 against Team Mexico

USSSA Pride fall to Team Mexico in extra innings, 5-4

Pride got the hitting monkey off their back tonight, talling eight hits in their first game against Team Mexico. Lead off hitter Amanda Lorenz hit very well, going two for five with an RBI double that almost left the park in the 5th. Shay Knighten would hit a two RBI single in the same inning and Haley Cruse would record an RBI triple in the 6th to continue the hot streak. Pride capitalized when runners got on base in this game and did not live or die by the long ball, something they struggled with last series.

The home run was the plan of attack for Team Mexico, hitting three homers for four of their runs. Sydney Romero had a day to remember, hitting 3-3 with 2 home runs, one of which being a clutch homer in the 7th to send the game to extra innings. Pride pitched well, giving up only 6 hits through 6 innings but could not come back from the power of the Mexico bats. Similar to how they played last series, Pride should be encouraged by the fact that this kind of play is known to be streaky and matchup based, giving them a good chance to win the next few games of the series.

Despite the loss, Pride put on a good show tonight. They gave Danielle O’Toole a run for her money, a very good pitcher who is hard to hit off of and did not give up much outside of Sydney Romero’s unreplicable night. As Head Coach Roman Foore said before the series began, all it takes is one break in one run games and it just so happened it was given to Team Mexico tonight. Pride will look to catch their lucky break tomorrow in game two of the series.
