USSSA Pride Lose in 7th to Team Mexico, 7-6

Tonight, was an exciting night for the USSSA Pride and their fans. Odicci Alexander, Softball America’s Pitcher of the Year, made her Professional debut tonight with six strong innings against Team Mexico. Alexander struck out eight batters giving up five runs, only three earned. 

Mexico was on the board first with a homerun by Sydney Romero, hitting her fourth of the series. Mexico then scored with a homerun by Amanda Sanchez in the second and a two-run homerun by Brittany Cervantes in the third. Alexander shut them out in the fourth and fifth inning, but Victoria Vidales hit a homerun in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead by one run. 

The bats for the Pride started out slow but in the fifth inning they came alive scoring four runs on five hits. Sahvanna Jaquish started off the inning with a single followed by another single by Good. Jaquish scored on a fielder’s choice by Aleisha Ocasio and then the runs started pouring in with Haley Cruse tripling to right scoring two. Cruse scored the fourth run of the inning with a sacrifice fly by Amanda Lorenz

Down five to four in the top of the seventh, Lorenz hit a rocket launch to right field tying the game. Palomino -Cardoza followed Lorenz’s homerun with a triple to center field the eventually scoring on a wild pitch going up 6-5. Jailyn Ford came in to close the game tonight for the Pride after the stellar performance by Alexander, but could not hold it off giving up a two-run double to Suzanah Gonzales.
