USSSA Pride split the DH with Team Mexico

Viera, FL (June 18th, 2021)- What’s better then coming to a doubleheader Professional Softball Game on a Friday night at Space Coast Stadium? Over seven hundred fans in house were treated to an offensive explosion by the hometown Pride in game one of their doubleheader with Mexico.

The Pride bats were alive early in game one scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the second inning. Sahvanna Jaquish led off the inning with a home run followed by Samantha Show singling to right and advancing on an error. Shelby Pendley walked then Aleshia Ocasio drove in Show with a single. Hailey Cruse kept the hit parade going with another single loading the bases. Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza followed Cruse’s single with a double to right scoring two runs. Amanda Lorenz came to bat with two on and hits a moon shot over the fence to deep right field scoring 3. Last night Lorenz hit a long homerun to right and now has two home runs in two straight games.

That’s all the Pride would need in game one to secure the victory behind Jailyn Ford. Ford pitched 5 innings giving up three runs on four hits and striking out seven. Ford pitched herself out of trouble in the fourth inning after giving up a leadoff walk to Brittany Cervantes and a double by Suzanah Gonzales. Ford was then in a bases loaded jam in the fifth and managed to escape with one run scoring. Samantha Show came in the sixth inning shutting Team Mexico out for the last two innings securing the 6 out save.

Team Mexico pulled out game two of the doubleheader. Danielle O’Toole pitched a complete game giving up one run on four hits for Mexico. Mexico hit Megan Good early scoring four runs in the first inning and one run in the second. Good lasted two innings giving up five runs on three hits. Jessica Burroughs came into relief in the third inning with a dominant performance shutting down Team Mexico. The Pride had some dazzling defensive plays behind Burroughs not allowing Mexico to score the remainder of the game. Burroughs pitched four innings giving up four hits and no runs.

The Pride’s bats were quiet throughout most of game two. With two outs in the seventh, they picked up their second hit of the game with Jaquish hitting a double to right center. Jaquish advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch while Jessica Warren walked. Samantha Show singled to center field bringing in the only run of the game for the Pride. They made things exciting in the top of the 7th inning loading the bases but were unable to sweep the doubleheader.
