USSSA Pride Tops Akron Racers in Back-and-Forth Affair, 7-5

duran1Mansfield, TX – June 21, 2014 USSSA Pride took the last of five lead changes in a back-and-forth affair against Akron Racers, securing a 7-5 victory on Sunday at Mansfield, TX.

USSSA Pride pulled out the win thanks to a strong sixth inning. USSSA Pride went up for good on an RBI triple by Andrea Duran off Lisa Norris, plating Madison Shipman.

Madison had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. She homered in the second inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

Jordan Taylor had an impressive outing against Akron Racers’ lineup. Taylor gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out six during her two innings of work.

USSSA Pride was sparked by Duran and Shipman, who teamed up for three hits and three RBIs.

Norris was the game’s losing pitcher. She allowed seven runs in 5 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out one.

In the top of the first, Akron Racers grabbed the early lead, 1-0. Taylor Schlopy got things going for Akron Racers with a single. Kelley Montalvo singled, bringing home Jill Barrett.

Akron Racers got one-run rallies in the second inning and the fourth. In the second, Akron Racers scored on a sacrifice fly by Nerissa Myers, scoring Ayumi Karino.

USSSA Pride answered Akron Racers’ top inning with two runs of its own in the second. USSSA Pride scored on a two-run home run by Shipman.

USSSA Pride never surrendered the lead after the sixth inning. The runs piled on thanks to a sacrifice fly by Kelly Kretschman and a two-run single by GiOnna DiSalvatore.
