Tonight, was an exciting night for the inaugural season of the Women’s Professional Fastpitch League. The USSSA Pride took the show on the road to play Smash It Sports Vipers to kick off the season in Kansas City.
The USSSA Pride jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Ali Aguilar hit a double, then scored on an error. The Vipers answered in the top of the second scoring four runs with two outs on a three-run home run by Ciera Bryan and a solo shot off the bat of Katelynn Short making the score 4-1.
With one out in the second, Sami Fagan hit a double to be the first of the two runs, followed by Haley Cruse who scored on Ali Aguilar’s second hit of the evening. In the top of the third, the Vipers put up five with two more home runs by Shelbi Sunseri and Ciera Bryan.
The only other run in the game came in the bottom of the fourth with a home run by Pride veteran Shelby Pendley, and Abbey Cheek scored off a deep sacrifice fly from Shelby Pendley in the bottom of the fifth. Leaving the score 9-5 in favor of the Vipers.
Keely Rochard took the loss in her first professional outing, while Sam Show and Monica Abbott came in relief to hold the Vipers scoreless for 4 ⅓ innings. Ali Aguilar leads in the offensive column with two hits, one run, and one walk on the night. Taran Alvelo was the winning pitcher for the Vipers.
